Insurance & Out-of-Network Reimbursement
We are proud to be in-network with Cigna, Aetna, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, and Maryland Medicaid. Please note that Valley Wellness and Counseling is an out-of-network (OON) provider for all other insurance plans.
The Superbill Process
If we are out-of-network for you, we provide a monthly "Superbill"—a detailed invoice you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many clients receive 60-80% of session costs back.
Check Your Coverage
We recommend calling your insurance provider and asking about your "Out-of-Network Mental Health Benefits" before our first session.
Benefits of Private Pay Therapy
Enhanced Privacy
Private pay therapy allows for a higher degree of confidentiality since there are no insurance companies involved that may request access to your personal health information.
Continuity of Care
Continue with the same therapist regardless of any changes to your insurance, ensuring your therapeutic progress remains uninterrupted by bureaucratic shifts.
Avoiding Network Limits
Choose a therapist based on fit and expertise rather than being limited by a network. Seek a practitioner who aligns with your goals, values, and therapeutic preferences.
Practice Policies
24-Hour Cancellation
Your session time is reserved exclusively for you. We require 24 hours notice for all cancellations. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full session fee.
Consistent Attendance
Therapeutic progress relies on momentum. We encourage regular weekly or bi-weekly attendance to maintain the rhythm of your healing journey and reach your goals effectively.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act (Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act), you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before your appointment if you are uninsured or choosing not to use insurance.
- You may request a written Good Faith Estimate at least 1 business day before your scheduled service.
- If your final bill is $400 or more above the Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge.
- Save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
To request a Good Faith Estimate, please contact us prior to scheduling.
Common Financial Questions
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, as well as Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. Payment is due at the time of service via our secure client portal.
How do I know if my insurance will reimburse me?
We recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking: "What is my out-of-network reimbursement rate for outpatient mental health (CPT code 90837)?"
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
We maintain a limited number of sliding-scale spots based on financial need. Please inquire during your initial consultation about current availability for these reduced-fee sessions.
